RECONVERSION TIME

Market trends point to the fast need for conversion of the pioneer orchards and even newer areas with varieties, rootstocks and orchard systems that do not allow to reach counts and fruit quality suitable for the new stage required by the market.

The fruit growers needs to adopt new technologies to be profitable and survive in this new requirements of market. It is time to plant new selections of Gala’s and Fuji ’s or new varieties in new rootstocks suitable to new orchards systems and Integrated Fruit Production (IFP).

MAKE YOUR CHOICE

1) High Density and Precocity
Supported systems in dwarf rootstocks M9 and M26. Tree density recommended between 2.500 to 4.000 plants per hectare. Demand more investment per hectare, due to the cost of poles and wires and also to the density, which means a higher numbers of plants - however, with excellent results of precocity. On the second leaf it has potential for 15 tonnes/ha from unbranched whips or even higher when feathered trees are used in orchard establishment and producing fruits already on the first leaf.

2) Medium Density
Orchard system that don't need plant support with rootstock Maruba + M9 (interstem) or M7. Tree density recommended between 1000 to 2500 plants per hectare. Lower investment with small production on the 2nd leaf and potential for 25tonnes/ha on the 3rd leaf.

NURSERY TREE QUALITY
The success of the new orchard depends on good tree quality, besides orchard systems and technology to be applied to the project. To establish an orchard with low nursery tree quality is the shortest path for project failure. In order to survive in this competitive market, it is necessary to invest in new ideas and technologies.
